In a prior module, you have created a system for writing e-mails quickly. Now is the time to try it out. In this module, you will write a real e-mail to your congressman. For some, this will be a real test. It may not be a very comfortable thing for you to do. However, remember that your congressman needs your support and will be very gracious to you. It is your job to be respectful of him / her.

Writing an e-mail to your congressman is easy. You are actually not sending an e-mail, but typing into an on-line database that is managed by your congressman. If you have completed the training modules in order, you should have already created some text to send and should have already set up some favorites for your congressmen and the country leadership (Speaker of the House, etc).


Open the “Contact Form” for your first politician. Just click on the link that you created in an earlier module.

  • Fill out each box in the form one at a time. Be careful when you fill in the form for the first time because when you do this, your browser may be saving your responses. The next time you fill out the form, you only have to type the first letter or number for each box. When you do that, your browser will display the answer that you typed in the first time.
  • Fill out only the answers that are required. These are usually marked with an “*”.
  • Sometimes you will have to type some characters that are displayed at the bottom of the screen in a very “warped” font. This is to make sure that a real person is filling out the form and not a computer. The warped font can’t be read by a computer. The contact form for Barack Obama has this feature.
  • Click send. You are done.
  • Complete the process for every politician to whom you want to send an e-mail . You can take credit for this module if you send only one. However, why not rip through the list and give them all a piece of your mind? You will feel much better for it. This is very cathartic.

    • Once you have mastered the art of writing the text generally and have filled in the form for each of your politicians one time, you will be amazed at how quick this process is. The e-mails that you send should be short, so they don’t take much time to write. When you are requested to take part in an action, we will give you sample text that you can use without modification, so that part can take no time at all. If you have your “Congressmen” favorites folder, you can run down the list and send a bunch of e-mails very quickly.
