RestoreTraditionalAmerica.com (RTA) is a grass roots website designed to help you to do your job as a U. S. Citizen. That is, to keep an eye on your government. For decades, we Americans have elected our officials and gone our own way while they have run the government. For quite a while, that worked reasonably well. However, while we were not looking, the government gradually took more and more power until they have created a massive bureaucracy that takes both our wealth and our liberties. We now live in a "Mother may I" culture where we need the government's approval to do just about everything. We can't build a building on our own property, start a business, or even draw a salary without getting government's permission or paying for the privilege.

We live in a politically correct society in which what passes for "conventional wisdom" no longer makes good common sense. Social Security is going broke, yet no one can fix it. It has been called the third rail of politics; "to touch it is to die". We need to change the political climate for things like this. We need to make it such that to ignore the problems of Social Security is to die. Social Security is only the longest running problem. There are plenty more; Medicare, immigration, deficit spending, and a new one, ObamaCare. We need to keep hammering away at these problems so that politicians start to change how they think. They need to know that if they ignore important problems, we will find someone else to solve them. They need to know that if they spend their time grandstanding for political gain, we will call them on it. They also need to know that we have quit listening to their spin and started to watch how they vote.

There is no quick fix to this problem. It will take a dedicated effort of many decades to make this kind of change because we have let the problem fester for so long. We have government agencies that control virtually every aspect of our lives. It has been said that the closet thing to immortality is a government program. No one has ever been successful at substantially reducing one once it has taken hold. It will take a long time and a lot of work to pare it down to size.

We can make our government smaller more responsive and more efficient by utilizing the economic forces of the free market and the ingenuity of the American people to solve our problems. We can do this without destroying the American safety net or throwing the poor under the bus.

So what makes us think that we can do this at all? There are two things. First, the country is going broke and it is easy to prove it. We are incurring massive deficits each year and we are beginning to have trouble selling our debt. The US Treasury note, once the definition of a secure investment is beginning to look like junk bonds. In 2009, we could not sell about $1 Trillion of our debt and had to, essentially, print it. The point is that the crisis is not just a possible future event. It is upon us. The second thing is that recent events have woken up a sizable portion of the population. It is now possible to get a significant number of people to act.
